Here’s my contribution to iam.willingwarrior.org. Not the easiest video I’ve ever made. I spent four years in film school trying to make videos that weren’t about being gay. That fact has been on my mind a lot, lately. I had so many opportunities to make films that could have helped me grow as a person, or could have made it easier for someone else in my year to come out. Instead, I convinced myself that my ideas weren’t about me being gay, but my fascination with the plight of homosexuality. The iconography of the homosexual. Yeah, or I could have been so amazingly insecure about it that I never even let myself linger on the possibility that I was, in fact, gay. Thanks to Brad, for challenging me to get in front of the video camera and say, “I am Brad. I am Gay.” It was a first, and an important first, I think.
This is a contribution to Brad’s I Am project, over at Willing Warrior. I decided that I should contribut but, in true me fashion, had to talk someone else into doing it with me. I also wasn’t a fan of the fact that all of the contributions so far were of gay men. What happened to all of the lesbians? The queers? Trangendered? Bisexual? Here’s Lucy, rockin’ it like a hurricane.
Four hours of collaboration between all of the Sound Designers and all of the Digital Media students yielded, 40 people throwing paint at one another, lots of laughter and some pretty interesting improvisation. We have the 20 foot Pollock painting to prove it.
